| Abstract: | This paper, based on a synthesis of available literature on these historians’ arguments, maintains that despite the absence of centralised political system, the Igbo did not lapse into anarchy. The Igbo were able to evolve a system of institutions of governance and develop a specialised and diversified economy. |
