Title: Exploring the Primary School Teachers’ Attitude towards Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as an Instructional Method in Mathematics Teaching in Anambra State.
Authors: Alison, Victoria U.; Alison, Joel O.; Alaribe, Christopher O.; Okeke, Chisom P.
Abstract: This study investigated the attitude of Primary School teachers towards Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) as an instructional method in Anambra State. It has been stated by several authors and
scholars that the development of any nation depends very much on their knowledge of Mathematics.
Mathematics has been so useful right from the origin of man. Mathematics is a vital subject in our lives, its
application can be found in any field or profession. Unfortunately the performance of the pupils in
mathematics has been consistently poor in primary school, which is the foundation of all levelsof education.
This could be as a result of poor teaching method, one teaching cannot be used for all subjects especially
mathematics. There is a need to explore other methods of teaching mathematics in primary school such as
ICT. ICT has been identified worldwide as a way out, if the teachers are ready to use it. The attitude of
primary school teachers has been seen as prerequisite to find out their readiness to use ICT in mathematics
classroom. Three research question and two hypotheses guided the study. The descriptive survey research
was adopted. A total of 130 public primary school teachers were randomly selected from the population of
1362 primary school teachers involved in the study. The instrument for data collection was Computer
Attitude Scale (CAS). The CAS was validated by experts and the reliabilities established to be 0.87. The
data collected were analyzed using SPSS package program to obtain mean, standard deviation and
independent z-test. The result from the findings shows that, the primary school teachers’ attitude is generally
positive; there is no significant difference in the attitude of male and female primary school teachers; no
significant difference in the attitude of urban and rural science teachers. Based on this findings
recommendations were made.

Authors: ALARIBE, Christopher O; IPEM, Josephine N; OYEYEMI, Ahmed A; CHUKWUONU, Julia U
Abstract: The focus of this study was to find out the relationship between students’ personality traits and their academic performance in History of Education in tertiary institutions in Imo State, Nigeria.Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. Correlation research design was used in the study. The population for the study was 3100 which comprised 1030 students from Imo State University (IMSU) and 2070 students from Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE). The study adopted simple random sampling technique. A sample size of 180 students was drawn from AIFCE and 120 students from IMSU which summed up 300 respondents. An instrument titled Questionnaire on Personality Traits and Academic Performance of Students’ offering History of Education (QPTAPSHOE) was developed by the researchers for data collection. The instruments were face and content validated by three experts two from Educational Foundations and one from Measurement and Evaluation all in the Faculty of Education in UNN. The instrument was trial-tested on a sample of 20 students in UNN which is outside the study area which has the similar characteristics. The responses were subjected to Cronbach Alpha formula. The following reliability indices: 0.76, 0.89 and 0.74 were obtained for clusters A, B and C. The reliability indices obtained showed that the questionnaire items were reliable. The three research questions were analyzed using Simple Linear Regression Analysis. One-way ANOVA was used to test the three null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The overall result showed that personality traits in general have a low positive relationship with students’ academic performance offering History of Education in Imo State Tertiary Institution, Nigeria. The study recommends that government should ensure that only teachers with strong educational and History backgrounds are employed to teach History of Education to enhance students’ personality traits.

ASSESSING THE IMPACTS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON TEACHER EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES IN OWERRI EDUCATION ZONE ONE OF IMO STATE

Title: ASSESSING THE IMPACTS OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON TEACHER EDUCATION AND COMPETENCIES IN OWERRI EDUCATION ZONE ONE OF IMO STATE
Authors: Alaribe, Christopher O.; Greg, Ekeh; Ipem, Josephine N.; Alison, Joel O.; Eze, Emylia I.
Abstract: This study is on Assessing the Impacts of Artificial Intelligence on Teacher Education and Competencies in Owerri Education Zone One of Imo State. The study was guided by four research questions. Owerri Education Zone One is comprised of three Local Government Areas which are; Owerri Municipal, Owerri North and Owerri West. The population of this study is comprised of all secondary school teachers in Public Secondary Schools in Owerri Education Zone One, Imo State. The population of teachers in Public Secondary Schools in Owerri Zone 1 is comprised of 1102 teachers. Purposive sampling technique was used to select 4 schools of both Junior Secondary Schools and Senior Secondary Schools from each Local Government Area in Owerri Zone 1. The sample comprised of 300 teachers in Owerri Zone One. Simple proportionate random sampling technique was used in selecting 75 teachers from each of the LGA. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled “Artificial Intelligence on Teacher Education and Competencies Questionnaire (AITECQ).” The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach alpha coefficient which yielded an index of 0.96. Data collected was and analysed using mean and standard deviation. The findings show that teachers in Owerri Zone One have little or no idea of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the integration of teacher education. Hence, the current teacher education curriculum does not incorporate AI-related topics or skills, leaving teachers unprepared to leverage AI in their teaching practices. The findings also show that teachers are not familiar with AI-powered educational tools. The study recommended that Government should develop and implement comprehensive training programmes for teachers to enhance their AI-infused pedagogical skills and build their confidence in using AI tools.
